I stayed in Auckland CBD for 1 year(2023~2024). And, I all the time ate what I cooked. I am so cheap. That is why I always visited several supermarkets and, saw and compared prices. I can tell where you should go to save money.
No.1 Woolworths Metro Auckland Victoria Street West(Countdown)

Mon. ~ Fri.: 7~20, Sat. & Sun.: 8~20
Almost everything is cheaper than any other shop in Auckland city. If you are too lazy to visit multiple supermarkets, you should only come here. You have a lot of choices of fresh meats and veggies. Odd bunch veggies and fruits are incredibly cheap. They are small or ugly, but fresh and nice. There are a lot of automated cash registers. So, you do not need to line up and wait.
There is another Countdown in the city center(Location). But, this one has a lot more choices of meats and produce.
No.2 New World Metro Queen Street
Opening hours
Mon. ~ Fri.: 7 ~ 21, Sat. & Sun.: 9.30 ~ 20.30
When you need meats, you should visit here as well as the countdown shown above. Every day some meats get cheaper. Other stuff is not as cheap as in Countdown.
This shop is open late at night when Countdown is closed.
No.3 Fresh Market CBD
Opening hours
Mon. ~ Sun.: 7 ~ 23
Veggies and fruits are cheap. When you want cheap produce, you should visit the Countdown or here. This is close to the Countdown shown above. Indian guys work here.
This is open every day late at night till 11 p.m. when all nearby supermarkets are closed.
Lim Chhour

Mon. to Sun.: 9 ~ 21
A sort of Asian supermarket. Sometimes, veggies are cheap. Produce going off in a big plastic bag is sold like 1 dollar. You can try expensive fruits at a low price. Besides, I think meat choices are a lot. You can get internal organs. But, the meats are not so fresh. Asian looking like Korean or Chinese works here.
Super food market

Mon. ~ Sun.: 7 ~ 21.30
Apples are always so cheap. 1~ 1.5 dollars/kg. Some other veggies and fruits are cheap. However, their produce is not so fresh. You can see some bruises or mold on it. Indian guys work here.
You need to pay a surcharge for credit card usage. But, it’s only a little bit. Doesn’t matter.
Soung Yueen & Co Ltd
Opening hours
Mon. ~ Fri.: 9~18, Sat. & Sun.: 10~ 17
An Asian grocery store. When you want seasoning products or spices, come here. They have more choices than Countdown and they are even cheaper. Asian looking like Chinese or Korean work here.
If you have your own transport, going to PAK‘nSAVE and Avondale Sunday market are the best way to save money.
